According to Bloomberg News, President Trump is expected to nominate Senate Banking Committee Counsel Hester Peirce to the SEC, possibly paired with a Democratic nominee. Ms. Peirce, a Republican, was formerly nominated to the post by President Obama in 2015 and is currently a senior research fellow at George Mason University's Mercatus Center. She is highly qualified for the post, having formerly served as counsel to Senate Banking Committee Chair Richard Shelby (R-AL) during the Dodd-Frank debate and prior to that serving as counsel to SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins. Her addition to the Commission, along with an expected Democratic nominee, would give SEC Chairman Jay Clayton the ability to move forward on a number of Administration priorities. According to news reports, several Democrats are under consideration, including Bharat Ramamurti, the Banking Committee counsel aide to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Robert Jackson, a Columbia Law Professor who previously served in several positions in the Treasury Department.
