Health Care

Through the American Health Policy Institute, HR Policy explores policies that impact the ability of employers to provide quality, affordable health care to employees and their dependents.

HR Policy staff draws from the input and the experiences of our members to provide solutions to the challenges large employers face in health benefits and employee wellbeing.   We help members digest complex legislative and regulatory policies and provide the CHRO voice in health care policy debates.

We work to provide members with up-to-date information and bold ideas to drive meaningful change in the following areas.

  • Federal Health Care Reform: HR Policy advocates for policies that strengthen the employer-sponsored health system through increased innovation and transparency without costly mandates and restrictions.

  • Employee Wellbeing: The key to a productive, engaged, workforce is a healthy workforce. We focus on innovative and collaborative ways to improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of employees. Our work with The Path Forward for Mental Health and Substance Use highlights one way we are at the forefront of positive change in how employers think about employee wellbeing.

  • Transparency, Quality and Cost Containment:  Employers are committed to providing innovative, high-value health care benefits at the lowest possible cost to employees. By collaborating with key stakeholders, such as providers and carriers, we work to create actionable change in the way health care is delivered.

  • Member-Driven Practice Initiatives:  Sometimes the best way to enact change is to work directly with members to provide tailored solutions for their employees. Two of our initiatives are Retiree Health Access® and National Health Access®.

  • ERISA Preemption and State Laws: ERISA preemption allows employers to avoid administratively burdensome and costly state requirements when designing and administering benefits.
