Our EU ally BEERG will continue to keep us posted on the HR implications of the Brexit vote, as our global allies continue to help our member companies navigate a turbulent global landscape.  In a new paper, BEERG notes: “Now that the UK voice no longer carries weight around EU negotiating tables, there is a risk that labor law initiatives long slowed by the UK brake will quickly gain momentum, at least within the Commission and the Parliament, the ‘Brussels Bubble.’”  Meanwhile, on September 13-15, Lockheed Martin will host the first component of our Global Labor Relations Certification ("Understanding the Global Labor Challenge") in Washington, D.C., featuring former SEIU President Andy Stern, whose new book—Raising the Floor: How a Universal Basic Income Can Renew Our Economy and Rebuild the American Dream—has just been published.  In addition, our global allies have a number of their own offerings this fall:

  • Latin America Employee Relations Group (LAMERG) will hold its first in-region meeting in Panama on September 27-28, where the keynote speaker will be Francisco Loaiza, Executive VP of HR for the Panama Canal Authority, who will describe how his HR team helped the Authority manage the extraordinarily complex and high profile Canal expansion.  For more information, contact LAMERG Executive Director Steve Gilbert ([email protected]).
  • Brussels European Employee Relations Group (BEERG) will hold its fall Network Meeting in Brussels on October 5-6 and its European Works Council training program ("Negotiating, Renegotiating and Managing EWC Agreements") in Barcelona on October 19-21.  Country-specific meetings will also be held throughout the fall in Paris, Dublin and London, with the latter two being largely focused on Brexit implications.  For more information, contact BEERG Executive Director Tom Hayes ([email protected]).
  • Asia-Pacific Employee Relations Group (APERG) will conduct its fall membership meeting on September 21-22 in Nanjing, China, hosted by A.O. Smith.  There will also be a web meeting providing a regional update on November 10.  For additional information, contact APERG Executive Director Amy Lau ([email protected]).

If you are not a member of one or more of these groups already, we would strongly urge you to consider joining.
