Ireland: Remote Working Code Published by the WRC

Ireland: Remote Working Code Published by the WRC

The long-awaited Irish Code of Practice on the right to request remote working has been published by the WRC. This Code of Practice arises out of the obligations from the EU Work-Life Balance Directive and Ireland's implementation of the Work-Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023.

Why it matters: The Code of Practice provides guidelines for remote working requests and empowers the WRC and Labour Court to order employers to reassess applications and potentially award compensation. This is important for individuals with caring responsibilities seeking flexible working arrangements, as employers can be ordered to pay compensation for failure to reasonably consider such requests.

The big picture: This Code of Practice sets out the considerations that must be taken into account when evaluating requests for remote or flexible working arrangements.
