BEERG Newsletter - Future Work: What’s in a name?

Bloomberg reports on the terms that employers are coining to promote their hybrid work options, including “Flex with Purpose” at audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG, and 3M's “Work Your Way.” Meanwhile, General Motors wants its employees to “Work Appropriately,” European automaker Stellantis is heralding a “New Era of Agility” and staff at Accenture can be “Omni-connected.”

Bloomberg says the varied terminology indicates “the challenge of establishing norms in an ever-shifting modern workplace that consistently defies attempts to normalise anything.”  88% of 1,500 executives and board members polled recently by Deloitte said identifying the right workplace model is key to their success, but just a quarter of them said they're ready to address the issue. As a result, about half of employers rely on informal guidelines, a Mercer survey found, and half of workers don't understand their own organisation's hybrid plan, according to a survey by professional social network Fishbowl.

It would seem that when it comes to hybrid work, many organisations do not know what it is, but they have a cool name for it.
