Marriott Trains Workers to Spot Signs of Human Trafficking

HR Policy Vice Chair and Executive Vice President and Global Chief Human Resources Officer at Marriott International, Inc., David Rodriguez, said of Marriott’s training of 500,000 hotel workers to recognize the signs of human trafficking, "There is no easy fix, but combating modern-day slavery starts with awareness.”

The mandatory training is a “watershed moment in the fight against this multinational crime,” per a Marriott press release.

Core value: Arne Sorenson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marriott International, pointed out “we are not just standing up for the most vulnerable in society, we are also protecting associates and guests as well as living up to a core company value—serving our world.”

Marriott collaborated with ECPAT-USA and Polaris—two leading non-profits that specialize in combatting human trafficking—to test and develop its human trafficking awareness program.

The program has resulted in rescues, with staff working with law enforcement to remove young people from dangerous situations.
