Matt Walter Chief Human Resources Officer, Medtronic, Inc.


Matt Walter is Chief Human Resources Officer at Medtronic. In this role, he is responsible for the company’s talent, culture, and organization strategies that support the company’s global team of 90,000+ employees.

As CHRO, Walter provides leadership for the Global HR function’s HR business partners, centers of expertise, and shared services. This includes responsibility for talent management and acquisition; leadership development; inclusion, diversity & equity; global rewards; organization effectiveness and people data/analytics, HR digital enablement, and employee relations. He is also a member of the Medtronic Executive Committee, reporting directly to the chairman and CEO.

Walter joined Medtronic in 2014 and has held HR leadership roles in Global Talent & Leadership Development, as well as HR business partner roles in the legacy Restorative Therapies Group (RTG), Coronary, Structural Heart, and Diabetes. In his most recent role as VP HR, Global Operations & Supply Chain, Walter led the development and execution of HR strategies supporting roughly half of the company’s global workforce.

Walter’s career spans more than 20 years, including broad HR and business leadership experience across many industries, including healthcare, consumer, and finance. Prior to Medtronic, Walter held leadership roles at Best Buy and at Bank of America.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Penn. He also earned a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University.
