Celebrating Our Past, Embracing the Next Chapter
Discover how the organization has evolved—and what’s ahead
We’re hearing tremendous positive feedback and enthusiasm about our name change and the exciting next chapter for our organization! I wanted to take a moment to share my perspective on the change. While it might feel like everything is shifting, in many ways this evolution reflects who we have always been. Let me explain what I mean by that.
- 1968 – The Labor Policy Association (LPA) was founded as a leader in HR public policy advocacy, focusing on labor relations, pay discrimination, layoffs, drug testing, affirmative action, and workplace safety—balancing business and workforce interests, often before companies even had CHROs!
- 1990s – Adapting to workforce change, we guided organizations toward greater employee involvement and empowerment, addressing issues like overtime, wages, and employer liability.
- Early 2000s – Became HR Policy Association (HRPA) to reflect the maturing strategic HR function, expanding our focus to public, investor, policymaker, and regulatory concerns such as executive compensation and health care.
- 2008 – Launched the Center on Executive Compensation, delivering trusted research, benchmarking data, and policy insights on executive pay, governance, and disclosure—resources many members rely on today.
- 2000s–present – Global expansion through integration with the Brussels European Employee Relations Group (BEERG), establishing regional leadership networks in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. This evolved into HR Policy Global, which now delivers tailored insights and guidance for members operating across diverse international markets.
As we celebrate this important milestone as the CHRO Association, it’s as much an affirmation of who we’ve always been as it is about what we’re becoming. Yes, a lot is changing, but supporting the leaders and companies driving HR and workplace innovation is something we’ve always done—and will continue to do.
I'm truly excited to embark on this next chapter of our organization’s history with each of you!
