8,000 Listeners to "The Wild Side": A Global Reach of Our Podcast Series

This week “The Wild side” reached 8,000 listeners in 80 countries.  Most listeners are in the USA, UK and Germany but reach out as far as Nepal, Yemen and Afghanistan!  We chat with Alan Wild on his series “A walk on the Wild side” and the new episode released a few  days ago.

Alan explains; "During COVID I decided to break down our popular three-day Fundamentals program into bite sized 10-minute segments … and it went on from there to two series and more than 50 episodes from the basics of working with German works councils to a more quirky take on operationalization of AI “Who's holding the horse's head”?   “I still prefer the live Fundamentals session” he added “join us for our next session in October”.

Produced at the beginning of every month, the August episode takes a critical look at company grievance, concerns and escalations systems.  Alan explains, like almost every episode it starts with a pretty simple question. "If retail and service companies today excel in dealing with customer complaints, why do the very same companies treat their own employees with problems quite differently?  … and differently not in a good way.”   Employees like the social media led style of reviews and complaints so much, that when they are faced with cumbersome internal processes they often turn to social media as an outlet for their frustration.  If in doubt ask Travis Kalanick, former CEO of Uber.

Alan, the author and narrator of the Wild Side, is our Senior Adviser on Global Employee Relations.   He has worked with the Association for more than 20 years during a career where he led global employee relations for Guinness, IBM and Amazon; was a member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization and later its CHRO; and has conducted consulting assignments in more than 100 countries, and for many of the 400 CHRO members of the HR Policy Association. From working in the UK, Switzerland, France and the USA he is a newly minted digital native working and traveling from Koh Samui in Thailand (check out the episode).

Next up in September is a look at identifying and measuring employee relations risk … the simple question? “If you can’t do everything everywhere where should you devote your time and effort to deliver business results”.
