UK: The use of NDAs to be limited

UK to join the US and Ireland in banning the use of NDAs to silence workplace harassment and discrimination victims, ensuring future settlements cannot block workers speaking out.

The Key Points  The UK government has proposed banning non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) that silence victims of workplace harassment or discrimination. Future settlement agreements cannot block workers from speaking out, aligning with laws already in place in Ireland and the US. NDAs will still be permitted for commercially sensitive information and intellectual property.

Why This Matters  This measure targets abuse of legal tools that have historically covered up workplace misconduct, empowering victims and witnesses to speak out. The move aims to promote transparency and accountability, especially in sectors with high vulnerability to low-income or insecure work.

What Might Happen Next  Other EU countries may follow suit, driving a trend towards greater openness.
