HR Policy Global’s Take: We listed five key issues of Carney's agenda highlight a balanced approach to managing immigration, fostering talent, and driving economic growth while maintaining a focus on strategic international partnerships and sustainability.

  • Immigration Cap:
Carney's policy seeks to mitigate the housing crisis by capping the number of temporary workers and international students to 5% of Canada's population by 2027. The cap is a reduction from the recent high of 7.3%, aiming to ease pressure on public services while ensuring sustainable immigration levels.

  • Talent Attraction:
While implementing the cap, Carney stresses the importance of attracting top global talent to bolster economic growth. This approach ensures that Canada remains competitive by welcoming the "world’s best brains" to drive innovation and economic dynamism.

  • Economic Growth and Productivity:
Carney emphasizes building a unified Canadian economy through strategic investments in nation-building initiatives. He is committed to removing federal trade barriers, boosting domestic car manufacturing, and diversifying Canada's trade infrastructure to boost productivity and job creation.

  • US Trade Negotiations:
According to press reports, Carney and US President Donald Trump had a successful meeting yesterday. However, future negotiations will determine the trade tariffs between the two neighboring countries, and the USMCA renegotiation will be a focal point.

  • Sustainability:
Carney actively supports sustainability and renewable energy. He has proposed ambitious plans, setting emission reduction targets and investing in renewable energy. Concerns have arisen that his support for net-zero regulation and carbon pricing could drive companies to leave Canada.
