Union: Roadmap for union “renewal” centre published

The European Trade union Confederation (ETUC) has published a 'roadmap' to establish a 'Trade Union Renewal Centre'.

Why it matters: Union density in Europe is at a record low, highlighting the need for renewal and adaptation to new sectors such as IT and social media.

The big picture: While laws protect employees, unions face challenges in moving the dial on pay and protecting jobs in tough restructuring situations. To renew, unions must answer the question: What is their offer to today's workforce?

Meanwhile: In Ireland trade unions are hoping to use the upcoming Irish election (due by Feb 2025) to demand changes in union recognition laws and stronger collective bargaining coverage.
