AI Act: Member States agree to deal

EU Member States approved a draft text of the AI Act, establishing a comprehensive governance framework for AI use across the EU. It may yet serve as a template for laws worldwide, similar to the impact of the GDPR.

The big picture: Human resource decision making involving AI is classified as 'high risk' and requires human oversight. However, management only needs to inform employees of AI deployment, not consult with them.

Management should keep in mind that other legislation, such as health and safety laws and the GDPR, may also come into play when it comes to implementing AI systems. The AI Act should not be seen as a “get out of jail” card when it comes to consultation over AI.
