HR Policy Releases Report on Employee and Labor Relations Functions

We are pleased to announce new HR Policy thought leadership: The Evolving Role of the Employee & Labor Relations Functions. Authored by Associate Counsel and Director of Labor & Employment Policy Greg Hoff, the study examines the requirements of this important role, and how shifts in the workforce and changes in employee expectations related to work continue to influence the employee and labor relations functions.

Based on interviews with more than a dozen employee relations and labor relations leaders and CHROs, as well as a demographic survey of more than 40 employee and labor relations professionals, the report captures key themes surrounding the breadth of experience, key areas of focus, critical relationships, and success factors of the employee and labor relations functions. Over the past decade, as these functions have elevated in importance, they have evolved to require a much more strategic, “big picture” mindset as well as better people management skills.

We thank everyone who contributed their valuable insights to the study. The full report can be found on our website here. We hope it is a useful framework for a rapidly evolving function and we look forward to your comments and input!
