Latin America Employee Relations Group Members Contribute Disaster Response Strategies on Call

Our global ally, the Latin America Employee Relations Group (LAMERG), hosted a conference call for member companies to discuss their relief efforts for employees and communities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, as well as the Mexico City earthquake.  Among the approaches shared were: 

  • Various robust systems to confirm the safety of employees and their families;
  • A large number of companies who established contribution programs for employees in other areas to support co-workers, and almost always with significant company matching;
  • The importance of business continuity and contingency plans which have been thoroughly tested;
  • Authority for local managers to provide meaningful, temporary cash support to employees;
  • The use of company supply chains to provide necessities;
  • In some cases, company-subsidized or company-provided temporary housing to allow workers whose houses were uninhabitable to be able to continue work.
