Stating "the future is about flexibility in the workplace," the Conservatives in Great Britain have indicated that, if they come to power in the general election, they would seek to modify restrictions on the use of agency workers. According to this week’s BEERG newsletter, shadow business minister Jonathan Djanogly said that regulations due to come into force in October 2011 as part of the European Agency Workers Directive (AWD) would reduce the flexibility of the UK's labor market. He said they “are counter-intuitive” and should “encourage the agency market and not detract from it.” Djanogly sees agency work as “a key way to get young people into the workplace."
