Immigration

Employment Verification

Because immigration into the United States—both legal and illegal—is often tied to employment opportunities, U.S immigration policy has an extensive workplace component.  Employers are required to verify the legality of those coming to work for them (“employment verification”) and, if they wish to hire workers from outside the U.S. with skills for which there is a shortage, they must obtain visas for those workers (“skilled worker visas”).

Skilled Workers

The employment of foreign skilled workers in the United States is governed by visas (e.e., H-1B) for which numerical limits are imposed and rigorous restrictions are applied based upon the availability of domestic workers with such skills and other factors.
