Global HR Initiatives
As the trend towards increased globalization of companies continues, it has become
far more challenging for companies to maintain labor and employment relations strategies
that work at both the country and global levels. To address these needs, HR Policy
Association and its EU affiliate, the Brussels European Employment Group (BEERG),
have a wide range of programs and services. Guiding the Association’s global efforts
is William S. Allen, Group Senior Vice President and Head of Group Human Resources,
A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. The Global HR Initiatives Program includes:
- In-Depth Information on Global HR Issues In addition to our own This Week in HR
Policy FlashMail, HR Policy members have access to the weekly BEERG newsletter covering
similar updates on developments in the EU with links to critical background information.
We also provide the same in-depth analysis of critical issues overseas as we do
on domestic HR policy issues. These are available on our website so that your staff
can be fully plugged into the HR issues of importance around the globe.
- Global Labor Certification Program HR Policy and BEERG offer an intensive program
that provides high potential HR professionals with a solid grounding in global labor
and employee relations knowledge and skills. In addition, BEERG offers training
programs specifically focused on managing employment relations in the EU as well
as issue-specific targeted programs, such as how to deal with works councils.
- Executive Conference Call Briefings We conduct conference call briefings on a quarterly
basis providing a high level overview of global issues of concern geared toward
senior HR executives. The calls focus on issues such as the HR role in global merger
and acquisitions, global accords governing human resource issues, and organized
labor’s globalization strategies.
- Global Harmonization Project HR Policy is working very closely with a team of our
member companies to assist them in standardizing and achieving consistency among
their HR policies in order to foster a more consistent corporate culture across
different regions and countries.
- Joint Meetings and Briefings HR Policy and BEERG conduct at least one joint meeting
each year in Europe at which members from both organizations have an opportunity
to interface on the critical issues of mutual concern. In the fall, our annual Labor
Relations Conference devotes one day to global labor and employment relations matters..
- Regional Meetings BEERG regularly conducts meetings among HR Policy and BEERG members
based in various cities (London, Paris, etc.) to discuss and exchange information
on issues of concern in those areas.
- A Voice in Europe On significant EU employment policy initiatives, such as the European
works council expansion, restrictions on the use of temporary agency workers, and
limits international restructuring, BEERG serves as our advocates, ensuring that
the views of the membership are being effectively represented.
